Connect 2 Mason is a student media site that links a lot of the events together and covers some pretty neat things: connect2mason.com

Student Activities is the place to go to check out other student organizations that you might be interested in, downloading forms about planning your own event, and getting the low down on major events like Wayne Brady: sa.gmu.edu

Back Tracking

Hey all, let's revisit some of the things that have gone down at Mason in September so far.

The first event we had was the night the first freshman moved in...surprisingly called First Night Mason ;)

Welcome Week was absolutely amazing! I had the opportunity to help out with some of the festivities which included a student organization fair, a carnival complete with a dunk tank (for Student Body President Dasgupta), free food from places like Hard Times, Great Harvest Bread Co, and Uno's Bar and Grill, and cool events like laser tag. Student Activites and University Life gave away t-shirts, planners, reminders about upcoming events and other goodies.

I also went to the NPHC Step Show...........Holy Crap! It was sheer genius.

Fast foward through events like Trivia at the Rathskellar, Mason on Location at Six Flags and Nationals Park and Mount Vernon, Service Saturday at the International Children's Festival, Singer Javier Colon, and Karaoke at the Rathskellar. All awesome, and all worth going to.

I can tell that the rest of the school year is going to be exciting!

Parking....whomp whomp.

So those of you who know me personally already know that a month ago, my lovely and wonderfully sporty Toyota Corolla was stolen at my townhouse off campus.
Even those of you who don't know me personally now know that it sucks to be an off-campus, commuter student without a car. Whomp Whomp.

Already filled of horror stories about Mason parking, I was petrified of the stress that constant carpooling would add. To my shock, aside from having to spend some awkward extra hours just hanging out at places until my rides would get out of class, I've enjoyed my time carpooling. And even more shocking.....parking at Mason isn't scary.

With the new Rappahannock Deck, I've never had to drive around (I mean, be driven around) looking for a space, because there are always about 800-1000 general lot spaces available there. Here comes the dilemma:

Should I tell people about the deck and risk the information catching on like wildfire and losing my parking space?

I didn't want anyone else to know about the deck because it was the little secret that I kept with my carpool (let's call them my "drivers"). But I thought about it a little more, and I realized that it would just be wrong of me to not share such a good thing with you all.

So here it is: the Lowdown on Mason Parking.

I'm happy to report that while my month of green living was fun, it is coming to a close. Next week I rejoin the rest of the Mason community in the garage. Now that I just shared with you my secret of parking success, I hope you're kind enough to save me a spot in Rappahannock for my new car:
Yes it's gold, and yes it has a spoiler. Don't hate. :)

Hey All!

Welcome to my blog...however you ended up here. In an effort to make my life easier and hopefully your lives easier, I'm putting together a blog of events and happenings around Mason, plus my take on important things that go on around here (in case you needed more of my opinion).

My hope is that this site will act to bring together all the crazy information that is out there on all the events that Mason offers for students, not to mention things that are just plain silly or stupid. I'm not claiming to promote News but just things that I think are newsworthy.

Full Disclosure, I work for Weekends at Mason, I'm in Student Government, and my two best friends work for Program Board and Connect2Mason. Biases aside, I really just think it's important for people to get the opportunity to learn what's out there for them to take advantage of.

So here we go.....
